Calling Is Not Called?!
We here the phrase, a lot, “what is my calling?” or “find your calling.” Some form of this phrase is used quiet often in our lives, especially, when we are younger or when we are speaking with younger people. This is one of those phrases that everyone presumes the meaning, and depth, is understood. The question is – who understands the true meaning and depth of what is being said and, more importantly, what is being heard.
This is one of the more fascinating looks at everyday life that Paul has addressed thus far in the Gospel. Maybe I’m just too ignorant to know any better but in 1 Corinthians 7 NKJV Paul gets right down to the nuts and bolts of men and women, husband and wife, calling and being called. The question I have is anyone truly listening and what are they are hearing?
If we look around our world seems to be moving closer to the edge everyday. It is not unusual to hear of some tragic story involving pedophilia, human trafficking or other completely deviant crime being committed by one human against another. Loosing track of God is how this happens. Loosing sight of the Way, the Life and the Truth happens when we stop listening, stop searching and believe we, mere mortals, can direct our own path.

I would encourage each of you to read this chapter. It’s not very long and will have a minimal impact on your time and the time you spend in this chapter could very well change your entire life.
1 Corinthians 7 NKJV
17 But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches.
18 Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised
19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters.
20 Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called.
21 Were you called while a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather use it.
22 For he who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called while free is Christ’s slave.
23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.
24 Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.
